How does Perlane work to enhance the contour of naso-labial folds?
The ageing process produces loss in skin volume and resorption of bone producing prominent naso-labial folds on the central face. This can be corrected by deep dermal rehydration using Perlane. Perlane is composed of Hyaluronic Acid and differs from Restylane because it is made from larger molecules and is longer-lasting.

What is involved in treatment?
Many patients do not require any anaesthesia. However, we usually recommend topical application of Emla cream for 30-45 minutes before treatment. A nerve block may be required if Perlane is combined with Restylane Lipp. The whole process typically takes 60-90 minutes.

What are the side-effects of treatment?
It is normal to experience some redness and temporary tenderness at injection sites. The skin will normally fully recover within a few hours and make-up can be applied immediately following treatment. The cosmetic improvment is usually instantaneous and will generally improve over the next few days once any swelling of the skin settles. Rare side-effects include lumpiness of the skin, extrusion of iller through the skin, and uneveness of the contour at injection sites. How much does treatment cost?
Each session of treatment costs £260-£300 depending on the amount of Perlane used during the treatment session. Deeper naso-labial folds require more dermal filler compared to less prominent ones. It is sometimes better to gradually build up the naso-labial lines over a 6-month period and repeat treatments may be necessary to achieve optimum results.

How long does the improvment last?
The improvement is usually observed for 9-12 months and sometimes longer. Each successive treatment may provide additional benefit and there is some evidence that collagen production is stimulated providing longer-lasting improvements.
